Mobile ticketing deployment in France

Offered since 15 October in Basse Normandie by the SNCF, NFC ticketing on mobile phones is now available for regional railways in 5 new French areas.

Developed by SNCF, the French railways, in partnership with Orange and SFR, the mobile network operators, and in combination with the regions, NFC ticketing on mobile phones for regional railways (TER) represents a major innovation in terms of ticketing. It allows a single gesture, ”buy, validate and control your TER ticket with your NFC mobile”. Offered since 15 October in Basse Normandie and now available in 5 new French areas : Alsace, Aquitaine, Haute-Normandie, Lorraine and Midi-Pyrénées, the app SNCF TER NFC is based on CALYPSO Triangle 2.

 

Mobile services for seamless traveling

 

With the app SNCF TER NFC, the phone becomes a single medium to travel in TER and can offer a simpler and seamless service to the customer. Free of charge and identical in each Region where it is used, this application can be used on almost 75 Android smartphone models equipped with an NFC SIM card and an Orange or SFR subscription. Through this service, the ambition of SNCF is to support emerging uses of mobile and NFC in transport. Today, 2 travelers on 3 have a smartphone and 7.2 million of NFC mobile phones are in service in France.

 

The CALYPSO applet at the heart of this mobile ticketing service

 

The app SNCF TER NFC is based on CALYPSO, the open standard that provides a fully standardized solution. The Calypso Networks Association applet is delivered free of charge to every CNA member, operator or manufacturer; it is thet basis of an interoperability of mobile ticketing at urban, regional, national and international level, especially through the use of Triangle 2 specific functionalities.
